PARVAT BUDDIES: Trek to Dhodap Fort on 14-15th Sept 2019.
Brief Info about the place:
DHODAP (1451m/4760ft) is a prominent hill fort in the Satmala mountain range near Nasik. It is an ancient fort as ascertained by the numerous excellent caves and water tanks built on it. The fort of Dhodap was initially under the rule of Nizamshah till the 16th century. In 1626, the Mughal General Aliwardi Khan won over the fort by bribing the Nizamshahi Killedar. Later in 1671, it was captured by the Marathas and was mainly used as a prison. As per legend, condemned prisoners were thrown off the western cliff of this mountain as a punishment. In 1818, the British took control over the fort.
The fort commands a beautiful 360 degree view of the surrounding mountains – a good opportunity for photographers! Saptashringi Tirth, Markandya, Rawlya-Jawlya, Ikhara pinnacle are some of the prominent peaks visible from Dhodap. There is a lot to explore on this fort. One finds excellent caves and water tanks, apart from rock staircases, ruined walls and temples. Post-monsoon is a flowering season in Sahyadri and one can see beautiful flowers in pink and yellow on the grassy slopes of the mountain. What more? If time permits, we shall have a dip in the lake at the base of the fort!
