PARVAT BUDDIES: KALSUBAI – Trek to the Highest Peak of Maharashtra (Offbeat Routes) on 28-29th Sept 2019.
Some Info about the place:
Mt. KALSUBAI (1646m/5400ft) needs no introduction! We all have studied Geography in school and know that this is the highest peak in the state of Maharashtra. It surely takes some good endurance and a patient mind to scale the “Everest of Maharashtra”. Reaching the top of this ‘Everest’ would not only give you an unmatched feeling of joy and confidence, but you would also be rewarded with a beautiful view of the surrounding valleys, lakes and hill ranges. Popular peaks of Kirda, Alang, Madangad, Kulang, Pandhra, Mordhan, Avandh, Patta, Ratangad etc can be seen from this peak. Beautiful views of Bhandardara Lake cannot be missed too. A temple dedicated to the legendary Kalsu-Devi (the goddess of women’s liberation) is situated on top of this mountain. Hence, a trek to Kalsubai definitely finds place in every trekkers’ ‘must-visit’ list.
So what we are going to do differently from the rest of the crowd is approach the mountain from its challenging unexplored Northern slope and descend through another offbeat untouched route so that you get the best trekking experience. September is considered to be an ideal month for trekking in the Sahyadri. There is freshness in the air with the monsoon leaving behind a carpet of greenery adorned with wildflowers. During this trek, we will come across several villagers who are mainly farmers, shepherds and local devotees – it would be a nice experience to interact with them, hear their stories and know something about their way of life. It is always a very good experience hearing the Legend of the Devi from the local folks. You’d also enjoy some delicious local food and hospitality too.
