PARVAT BUDDIES: Ganpati Season Special Trek to SARASGAD on 8th Sept 2019
September 8 @ 6:00 am - 7:00 pm UTC+5.5Rs.1200
PARVAT BUDDIES: Ganpati Season Special One Day trek to Sarasgad on 8th Sept 2019 (Sunday).
Brief Info about the place:
SARASGAD (488m/1600ft) also known as “Pali cha Killa” flanks the town of Pali in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. Pali as we all know houses the Ballaleshwar Ganpati Mandir which is one of the 8 Ashtavinayaks in Maharashtra. Sarasgad Fort was mainly used as a watch tower to keep vigil on the surrounding areas. It has several water cisterns and caves which were used as shelters for soldiers and silos (Dhanya Kothi). During his regime, Shivaji Maharaj had spent 2000 Hons (currency in form of Gold coins) for the redevelopment of the fort.
The trek to Sarasgad is an enjoyable excursion in the monsoon. The initial climb is a gentle slope that gets steeper till we encounter a simple rock patch beyond which lies the thrilling rock staircase leading us through the Dindi Darwaza of the Fort. Climbing further we come across another minor rock patch which brings us to the top of the fort. Here we find a small temple of Kedareshwar (Lord Shiva) adjoining a small pond. From the summit, we are gifted with green views of mountains all around including Sudhagad, TelBaila, Mrugagad, Sagargad, Sankshi and the entire Pali town.
Approx Trek Distance: 6 kms.
Approx Climb: ~500m/1640ft.
Special Features: Minor Rock patches and Rock Staircase
Suitability: This trek is ideal for someone who has prior trek experience but beginners who are physically fit and having proper trekking shoes can also join. Kids above 7 years can join if accompanied by parent.
